What: WHO Economic Development Committee Meeting
When: Tuesday, October 23, 6:30 pm
Where: Homewood Studios, 2400 Plymouth Avenue
Elizabeth Ryan, City of Minneapolis CPED director of Housing Policy and Development, will speak to residents and to the Economic Development Committee of Willard-Homewood Organization on Tuesday, October 23, at 6:30pm.
At our WHO Meeting in September, Councilman Don Samuels presented us with the information that (as of August 7, 2007) there are 163 foreclosures in the Willard Hay neighborhood. He encouraged us to get more informed and involved as the City looks for solutions to this growing problem.
We have asked Ms. Ryan to speak about the City’s plans regarding:
- eliminate boarded houses in 3 years
- prevent boarding in the future
- prevent foreclosures in future
- have a mix of housing in all areas of the city, and
- promote reinvestment and stabilization for people to stay in the city.
We want to learn how to frame this issue for participation by our residents and block club leaders in Willard Homewood, and to form whatever partnerships are possible with the City departments to assist in meeting these challenges.
Note: also see minutes of this meeting.

Monh Wok has finally opened it’s doors at 2118 West Broadway and I say it’s about time! This location hosted a previous Chinese restaurant, but it has been long gone and sorely missed.
Monh Wok’s food is fantastic, plentiful and reasonably priced. They have a good range of Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese, including vegetarian dishes. When I ordered I was surprised to realize my food was actually being prepared fresh.
They only accept cash at the moment, but will soon accept credit cards also. No Checks- who can blame them? Please patronize this wonderful addition to our neighborhood cuisine.
